Langston Hughes: Historical Perspective Essay

Both the poems which i chose to come up with are “The Negro Mother” and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes. Quite a few poems will be about a mom speaking to her children and speaking of the hard times that she has undergone in the past. Whenever we read these poems it’s very much showing us regarding history and the things which black people had to withstand back in the days.

Many people can notice it as her speaking to her children or to her son directly although I see this as her speaking to the black children of society. The Desventurado Mother is known as a poem in which a mother can be speaking to her children regarding her struggles and reminding them of her ancestors and forefathers and their times as a slave “I i am the one whom labored being a slave, crushed and roughed up for the work that I gave” (Hughes, 2012, Line 11). At the beginning of the poem the girl begins to describe the horrible things and just how bad points were then again starts to tell her children a form of hope and telling these people “Stand just like free males supporting my own trust. Rely on the right, permit non-e press you again. ” (Hughes, 2012, Line 36).

Inside the poem Mom to Boy, we have the similar motif where the mother speaks of her problems in life. Your woman describes her life because stairs and says that her “life for me ain’t been no crystal step. ” (Hughes, 2012, Range 2) As known from the initially poem your woman continues to motivate her son and showing him never to give up. “don’t you land now- to get I’se still goin’ honies. I’se continue to climbin'” (Hughes, 2012, Range 17).

The things i thought your woman meant the following is don’t give up because after all that I have been completely through, We am still going.
