In the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare; Lord Capulet, the father of Juliet, shows the characteristics to be caring, being stubborn, and being polite.
During the chat with Paris, france about his proposal of marriage to Juliet, Capulet shows his caring area by safeguarding his only daughter when he says that, “My child is but a new person in the world, as well as She hath not noticed the change of 18 years; / Let two more summers wither in their pride, as well as Ere we may think her ripe to become a bride” (I. ii. 8-11). Capulet acknowledges that Juliet is too small to become a bride as the girl with not even fourteen. He also understands by his own experience with marrying Lady Capulet that this individual should provide Juliet more hours to prepare for the role as a bride-to-be.
Not only is usually he qualified to his family, he also displays courtesy towards his good friends and guests. At the masquerade, Lord Capulet displayed his courtesy if he explains to Tybalt, his nephew, that Romeo, “…like a portly gentlemen, “/ where “Verona brags of him/ To be a virtuous and well-govern’d youth/ Here in my home do him disparagement” (I. v. 65-69). Although there is a long standing feud between the Capulet and Montague family, Master Capulet forgotten their family’s dispute and allowed Romeo to remain at the masquerade to take pleasure from himself. However, Capulet has demonstrated signs of mood swings, especially through the conversation the moment Juliet politely refuses to marry Paris.
Capulet overreacts, “How, will the lady non-e? Doth she not give us thanks? / Luxury? not very pleased? Doth your woman not count her blest, / Unworthy as she’s, that we have wrought/ So worthy a lady to be her bride? (III. V. 142-145). Lord Capulet’s stubbornness can be shown if he is forcing Juliet to marry Rome, even though she cannot.
