Through the story Beloved, we could understand the physical and emotional effects that slavery experienced on persons during that period. The harshness of captivity made persons do things that they normally may not do and kept many from living the life that they would have desired to live. We could also see that slavery not only affect those who were slaves but their children as well, as much had to grow up devoid of parents, children, siblings, or spouses.
