This short item of American literary works is a detailed prose depicting a landscape in the American Civil Conflict.

An unnamed lieutenant is usually wounded in his right arm although resting with the rest of his troops during an active battle. The story permits the readers for taking part within the lieutenant’s awareness on what is happening and how the battle was shaped and he is a participant or possibly a victim of any battle unidentified to him. The challenge is brutal and turbulent; it was capable of take the innocent lives and anything coming.

All of this thinking happened while the lieutenant approved the line with the battle, when he was searching for the field hospital.  At the hospital, the wounded official had a simple and unpleasant encounter using a surgeon that is rude and lied to him, saying that his arm will not be amputated. The story could envelop the soft and meek aspect of an military services officer in a few lines of dialogue of obtaining his right arm amputated. In the end, the lieutenant went along with the doctor for a medical procedure but finish up losing his arm. The army official felt embarrassed when he go back home to his family and displaying an empty sleeve.
