Quinn Psych 95 November 13, 2012 Psychology in Videos Psychology is the study of or science of how people and organizations behave and the mental procedures. Characteristics of such behaviors and mental techniques are described in many different methods within the movies that we create. Within the video, Remember the Titans, various social psychology concepts are present.

Remember the Titans is known as a movie placed in Virginia 1971, its about a high school football team and exactly how they come together in order to attempt to win the state championship.

Sadly it is not that easy, this is a top school which includes just been forced to integrate in a time of racial segregation, in a community where basketball is everything and it is most of the boys’ ticket out of town and on college. The three concepts which can be evident in the movie are foot-in-the-door phenomenon, groupthink, and ingroup bias and outgroup. The first strategy is foot-in-the-door phenomenon. There exists a scene where teams recently appointed Dark-colored head instructor, Coach Boone, forces each of the boys off of the two chartering taking those to their two week camp.

After that he isolates the team in two groups, offense and defense, and then pairs every player using a teammate of your different competition. Coach Boone goes on to show them this is also the individual with who they will be writing a room with, this is his initial little request. While camp carries on on the staff gets to know each other and slowly the race lines between them fade and they become close to each other. So Mentor Boone’s preliminary request helped the team to later adhere to his demand of them to play together like a strong fused team.

This later request would not have already been possible in the event asked originally, he had to begin with a smaller demand and job his way up to the greater request. Groupthink is the second psychology concept within Remember the Titans. After the team returns from your football camp, where they united with each other, they earn a couple of video games but the hatred and racism is still good within the city and they little by little disband because of this. Gerry, Julius, Rev, and Louie inform the team of a mandatory staff meeting, but since the other teammates appear they learn to realize that the coaches aren’t there and are about to keep.

The four that organized this meeting ask them to stay and hear them out. They discuss winning game titles but point out that it’s not a get, sticking with each other through each of the chaos together is a the case win. This kind of meeting or decision making group decide to be employed by harmony within the group and let it override the reasonable alternative of reverting returning to the hate of each different that is the norm in the community. This entire movie can be encased with ingroup tendency and outgroups. A great sort of this is a scene if the team reaches their soccer camp.

Louie goes to sit back at a table of most African People in the usa and Julius says, “What you doing man? Louie answers “I’m ingesting lunch. and Julius replies “I see you eating lunch. How come you consuming over here? Why don’t you carry on over right now there and consume with your persons. This kind of shows Julius’ tendency to favor his own group over Louie who is recognized to be part of a group that is certainly different than his group. Bear in mind the Giants being set in a segregated time is focused on the in-group and out-group.

In conclusion, the three concepts which might be evident in Remember the Titans happen to be foot-in-the-door happening, groupthink, and ingroup prejudice and outgroup. Adding these concepts in the plot made this a stronger storyline, by simply creating a active story. The idea of groupthink can be described as concept which i think basically experienced enough with a lot of people having a “me attitude as opposed to the desire for balance or that anyone should certainly feel outdoors or certainly not part of the ingroup. This has opened up my eyes to any or all the social psychology factors within videos.
