The skin serves as protection to the body keeping the right heat for it in order to perform its task the accurate approach (Encarta, 2007). Furthermore, it also protects the immune system, consequently guarding us from different sicknesses (Encarta, 2007). This paper entitled, “The Three Tiers of the Skin” intends to reintroduce the skin, dermis, as well as, the subcutaneous tissue the three layers of the pores and skin (Encarta, 2007).

In addition to that, in addition, it aims to point out the functions of the previously mentioned.

The skin is composed of three tiers. The first one is technically known as the epidermis, which is the skin located at the outermost layer (Encarta, 2007). These layer, in turn, has tiers as well, specifically: 1) stratum corneum, which can be composed of lifeless, flat pores and skin cells that shed around every a fortnight, 2) assise licidum, 3) stratum granulosum, 4) stratum spinosum, and 5) stratum basale, that are column-like fit and healthy, wherein skin cells break up and drives the cells into the upper tiers, and when they certainly, they switch flat and die (Encarta, 2007). Furthermore, in this first layer, one can possibly discover the 3 types of specialized skin cells including: 1) “Melanocyte”, which in turn brings in being the pigment theoretically known as the melanin, 2) “Langerhans’ cell, which usually guards the skin’s immune system, and 3) “Merkel’s cell” (Encarta, 2007).

The second one is known as the pores and skin which is consisting of three types of muscle including: 1) collagen, 2) elastic tissues, 3) reticular fibers (Encarta, 2007). The dermis provides two levels as well, namely: 1) the papillary part, which is situated on top which which is consisting of a thin set up of collagen fibers, and 2) the reticular layer, which is located at the bottom and that which is composed of thick collagen fibers merged in a parallel manner (Encarta, 2007).

In addition, in this second layer, one can possibly discover the specialised dermal skin cells, including: 1) hair follicles, that happen to be located together with the “pili muscle” and that which in turn joins each follicle, 2) “sebaceous oil glands” & “apocrine fragrance glands”, which can be related with the follicle, 3) eccrine (sweat) glands, 4) blood vessels & nerves, which will convey thoughts of itch, pain, and, temperature, and 5) Meissner’s & Vater-Pacini corpuscles, which usually convey the feelings of pressure and feel (Encarta, 2007). The last level is known as the “subcutaneous tissue”, which is composed of connective and fat tissue that benefits blood vessels, and also, nerves (Encarta, 2007). The subcutaneous muscle actually performs a large role in the power over the skin’s temperature (Encarta, 2007).
