The Shawshank Payoff by Sophie King is definitely both an excellent film and

a brilliantly created short account. There are many topics represented in each kind

in the Shawshank Payoff. The one key theme that interests me in both equally

the film and the story can be freedom. Independence serves a huge purpose for the

storys writer and the filmmaker. Both use similar examples to signify flexibility

with the imprisonment, but as well in a much larger context regarding life. There are numerous events

and good examples in both the film and the short account that indicates the concept of the

independence. The one main difference is when the film uses the director’s strategy

to portray an understanding of liberty for the inmates. The overall three issues used in this kind of

composition are all from the feeling of the inmates feeling the feeling of flexibility

while using prison walls.

In the two film and the short tale, which involves flexibility is the moment Andy

Dufresne approaches the narrator, Red. Andy asks Crimson, I imagine you could

get me a rock-hammer. (28) Andys basis for wanting a rock-hammer is definitely

as they was a rockhound. At least I was a rockhound. During my old life. (29)

Andy declares that he’d like to be a rockhound again on a limited basis

because it offers him the sensation of freedom. This model serves the purposes of

the two storys article writer and the filmmaker. The take action of Andy Dufresne having the capacity to

embark on Sunday expeditions(29) at Shawshank shows someone and/or viewer

that it will make him feel free, like when he gathered rocks in the old life (life

before prison). On a larger level, this event could be interpreted as a lessons to

not stop your independence. Even though something bad happens to you, you

probably should not become secluded and be despondent all of the time. Andy shows the

visitor that you must obtain busy living or receive busy dying(movie) or you is going to loose

your internal freedom.

The different theme of flexibility comes in the two film and the story, when

Andy Dufresne received beer for all of you crew that tarred the prisons roof top. In this

example, possibly Red mentioned that the break lasted 20 minutes, the beer-break

and for individuals twenty moments we felt like free males. (48) Crimson recalls that the crew

felt this sort of freedom that they could have been consuming beer and tarring the top of

one of our very own houses. (48) This case serves the purposes of both the

storys copy writer and the filmmaker because it displays the reader and viewer that

this happened since Andy desired himself and his co-workers to feel

freedom. This occurred because he made organization dealings while using

most challenging screw that ever went a change at the Shawshank State Penitentiary (48). Andy

was always known to have different things to him, a sense of his own worth

probably, or a feeling that he’d be the winner in the long run or maybe it was only

a sense of freedom(48) which Andy could even are able to possess inside

prison. Andy always carried a great inner light(48) inside of him, an internal light that

used up for the dream of freedom. Andy received the beer for all his crew because he

wished the crew to have a sense of independence also.

The director’s technique that is used in the film but did not occur in the

short tale was once Andy Dufresne got get of the prisons loudspeaker and

played out a brief amount of traditional music. Inside the short amount of time the music

performed, silence overcame the penitentiary. Red stated that even though the music got

certainly not lasted lengthy, every que incluye in the penitentiary felt free of charge, even if it absolutely was just for a

minute. This case in point serves the purposes of both the storys writer plus the

filmmaker because it displays the reader/viewer that the music gave the cons in

the prison a feeling of freedom, whether or not it was simply for a short lived moment.

In conclusion, I really believe that one major theme that is certainly of great importance

throughout both the film and the brief story is usually freedom. Flexibility serves a sizable

purpose for both the story’s writer and the filmmaker. However the majority of

the cases are the same in both forms, the example that is diverse still retains

the same interpretation and lesson regarding not only jail but likewise the larger

context of life. The director’s strategy to portray a similar theme was a good

idea intended for the film, proving for the viewer the theme of freedom still is maintained in

the film.
