manymonumental conferences that have affected, even altered, the

function of the Catholic church on the globe. These group meetings

are called councils. Councils are meetings in the pope and

his cardinals and bishops designed to handle a new

circumstance or problems that poises the cathedral. From the

Council of Jerusalem to Vatican II, they may have sought to

identify and define the Catholic chapel.

The Council of Trent was no different than the

councils that came prior to it. This council happened to

combat Luther as well as the Reformation, for least originally.

The Council was actually placed over a span of twenty years.

Of this period, only 2 yrs were in fact spent in

meetings. The Council of Trent was convened three times

before formally being adjourned. The first period started in

1545 and ended in 1548. The objective of this initially period

was to define règle not for the good of the chapel, but

against the position of Protestant reformers. One of the

key statements with the first period was about the

Christian faith and salvation. The Authorities determined that

the Christian faith was based on Scripture and on

custom. Tradition which means teachings and practices which

had been current in the chapel from the beginning and which

was handed down to the current day. The issue of

salvation was also dealt with. The Council decided that

salvation was gained through the grace of God, in

conjunction with good and meritous performs. The Council

hoped to reject Luther through this kind of declaration, yet all that

succeeded in doing was confusing Catholics globally. This

is basically because this decision went directly against Ephesians 2:

8-9 which states that by simply grace ye are kept through

faithnot of performs, lest any kind of man should boast. Right now there

were various cardinals who realized the biblical real truth of

Luthers view on this kind of subject, but the Jesuit theologians

erroneous views prevailed, and were used by the Catholic

Church.

The second period- from 1551 to 1552- dealt primarily

with the Eucharist. This conference of the Council confirmed

which the body and blood of Jesus the Christ was truly

present whenever communion was celebrated. This sensation

is called transubstantion. This decision was made primarily to

escape the Calvinist view with the Eucharist. It absolutely was also

throughout the second period that penance and extreme unction

had been declared sacraments. The Council asserted that Jesus

him self instituted these practices, and they could

only be administered with a priest.

Another and final period of the Council of Trent

organised in 1563. This period emphasized three procession.

First, purgatory was defined as a real put in place which these

that got committed sins were held until they will fully

atoned for them. The priesthood and marriage were

ordained while sacraments. Finally, indulgences were explained

and justified.

Overall, there were 4 major decisions reached by simply

the Authorities of Trent. The most momentous of these was your

declaration that salvation was gained through works and

grace. Also, the père interpretation from the Bible was

final. Anyone that substituted his or her own interpretation

was a heretic. Regarding the Christian lifestyle, the

Council decided that the Bible and custom governed a

Christians your life equally. Finally, indulgences

pilgrimages, and ay relics had been all valid ways of

expressing Catholic piety.

Most of these decrees to some degree directly refuted

the teachings of the simple church. In the effort to

contradict Protestant beliefs, the Council of Trent generally

strayed via biblical real truth. Despite the shortcomings, the

Council of Trent remains one of the most important

councils in the history of the Roman Catholic Church.
