The story unwraps with Mary Joad hitchhiking on his method home to his familys farm following serving a brief prison term. He gets a trip from a trucker whom sneaks him on even though it is resistant to the rules. The trucker knows that Jeff has just recently been released coming from prison and begins to issue him.
Tom doesnt have a problem informing what this individual has done and they get into an extensive conversation. The trucker informed Tom that people have been getting off this area for the reason that developers were moving in. Jeff realizes that and thought that his family might have left, nevertheless he then numbers that they might wait for him. As Jeff gets dropped off, he strolls the rest of the method to his familys farm.

After having a while, the Joads as well as the Wilsons plan to join up and travel to California together.
The Wilsons have an auto and they determine that by taking some people from the truck they will be able to move faster. Through the trip Granny dies coming from a broken heart. Sooner or later Sairy turns into too unwell to go on plus the Wilsons and the Joads portion. Soon the Joads start to suspect that maybe California is not as great as everyone made it sound.
That they meet even more travelers who have tell them with the hard times and little cash that they discovered. They said that the people of California do not want them there and take advantage of them. While the Joads were for one base camp they fulfill a depressing group of people. Jeff gets within a fight with the deputy. The Joads meet up with a woman named Rosasharn and they realize that her husband Connie has left her. Rosasharn is pregnant and cries that Connie should not have left her after all that he features promised her.
