It is sad that in our society, conformity and assimilation have triggered schisms in our communities. The Calgary Example is one such example. Psychologically ill people who find themselves marginalized deal with a myriad of problems that are belittled and badly understood. Those of us who are in a position to produce a positive contribution to the lives of psychologically ill community members, would prefer to choose to spend our attempts on more esthetically pleasing charities. It seems that mainstream society would rather view the issues surrounding the mentally ill basically go away and remain disregarded.
As social personnel, it is the responsibility to make certain this does not continue.
