Travelling has long been a passion of mine. Being an amateur shooter, I find seeing fresh places, getting together with new people and achieving to know distinct cultures, exceptionally inspiring. By the age of thirty-two I had recently been to the most of exotic places: the Emirates, Ethiopia, Poultry, India, Laos, Thailand, Asia, Egypt, Sydney and Emborrachar. So , when a friend of my dad who had been working as being a Peace Corps volunteer inside the Ukraine asked me to go to him for a few weeks.

However the problem was asking mother and father if I may go with him, but then it was not a problem ever again when I asked them as he was a reliable friend of my dad and in addition they were the two thinking with this problem, I thought: “Why not?! I really do not know what to expect out of this country as I know almost no about it. Therefore , it will always be an interesting encounter! And we were thus right about this.

Ukraine developed into completely different from everything I use seen until now.

A post Soviet Union region, it is continue to struggling to generate a developed society. But , being an newbie photographer, I had been far more enthusiastic about nature, people and sites, than in politics. Ukraine were a beautiful, actually gorgeous nation. Being somewhat smaller than Texas, it is extremely diverse and is packed with natural wonders that consider your inhale away. Kyiv, the capital city, came out unexpectedly well-groomed, green and wealthy. Plenty of bridges over the Dnipro Lake, a great number of gorgeous parks, several botanical home gardens, and many, many flowers everywhere you go. A lot more friendly than you might think. Up coming we went to the traditional western Ukraine having its own unusual culture and atmosphere.

The Carpathian Mountains are gorgeous and very real, with small distant neighborhoods and small country homes that appear like the progress will never reach them. An amazingly romantic place! I had been right now there in late Might, but my pal says these types of mountains are beautiful all year round ” an excellent hiking spot for spring, a wonderful tent camp landscape pertaining to summer and autumn, with tiny quickly mountain streams that impressed me with the pureness, and a couple of perfect skiing resorts that do not yield towards the Austrian or perhaps Canadian types even a tiny bit. People of Western Ukraine amazed myself as well, particularly the elderly ” very strichgesicht, very confident and very energetic.

The western was basically the first place that my father’s friend required, and this made me adore the Ukraine completely. From your Carpathians all of us travelled to Lviv, a gorgeous medieval city that may be somewhat similar to Prague but is very particular in its atmosphere: 800 year old castles, solid wood churches, medieval catholic wats or temples and castles, flowers at every corner and on every home window seal, original block tarmac streets in the Old Town (Stare Misto), and lots of people in amazing national clothing ” vishivanki (embroidered white shirts). Lviv is a mysterious city and it fuelled me with inspiration to find the rest of the country.

Next my dad’s friend took me to Zaporizhzhya ” an East city with an impossible to enunciate name and two 1000 years of record. The city is built on two banks of the River Dnipro, and has an island at the center ” Khortitsa ” the most important river island in the world. The area is very religious ” no surprise that so many centuries back the outrageous tribes of skiffs and sarmates, sometime later it was the cossaks (famous Ukrainian soldiers of 1400-1600’s, that had a extended moustache, a good forelock and wore extensive red trousers), built their particular fortifications for the Khortitsa Tropical isle. The City itself seemed to me to be continue to very Soviet-like in its nature and atmosphere, so it was interesting for me to take images of their well-known dam with all the huge Lenin statue pointing at that, and the factories that were after the pride with the USSR and, amazingly, even now successfully function for export purposes today.

Our following stop was Crimea ” a big heart-shaped peninsula that may be washed simply by two oceans ” the Black Ocean and the Azov Sea (the shallowest on the globe, by the way), has amazing mountains, excellent crystal caves and scenic deep wetlands. It’s a incredibly picturesque place ” therefore green, therefore virginal, so unlike whatever I have found before. The pictures I required at the Crimea I consider to be one of the best series inside my photo collection. We as well attended a wine event in Koktebel, where they make pretty good neighborhood wine, visited Askania Volkswagen ” a marvellous biosphere reserve sanctuary established in the nineteenth hundred years. A great chance to get a scope of the actual country’s mother nature was like a few twelve one hundred year ago, continue to very much unpopulated and virginal. I knew each of the facts about this kind of place, because of my dad’s friend.

There was clearly one thought that didn’t keep my mind, actually for a second, during the entire time I spent in Ukraine: “I cannot believe this country and its particular fantastic nature, history and traditions are so unfamiliar to the rest of the world! Ukraine was a true finding for me, and one of those instances when your targets are nothing like what you seriously see. I have wished to visit this country several times once more, and I’m extremely sure that anytime I go back right now there, my impression will get richer and fuller. If you should question me what place I could recommend to people avid and blase vacationers who manage to have seen all this, I’d declare without a second of hesitation: “Go to Ukraine! Whatsoever you will anticipate, this will nonetheless amaze and astonish you!
