Lyddie

In the historical fiction story “Lyddie” by Katherine Paterson, the main personality has to decide on whether to sign a petition or perhaps not. Lyddie Worthen can be described as poor girl who stems from Vermont, can be working VERY hard to pay a debt that her mother owes. Although since the operating conditions happen to be horrible, a female named Blanco Goss built a petition for all the girls in the manufacturing plant to signal. It will go against the factory proclaiming why they are really mad and disgusted by factory. Lyddie should NOT indication the petition because it will affect her in a adverse way.

Lyddie should not indication the petition because your woman needs to pay her farm’s debt. Now, Lyddie is definitely working very difficult to earn money. The lady was persistent in her work in order to pay her debts. In page 88 of “Lyddie” it says “So it had been that when The Concord Organization once again speeded up machinery. She didn’t complain the girl needed the money” (88). This means she copes considering the challenges placed at her at her to reach her goal. This kind of quote supports the idea of Lyddie not placing your signature to the request because your woman needs the amount of money. Not putting your signature on will result in a great pay for her.

Lyddie should never sign the petition since if she does, she will get blacklisted. At this point with the novel, the ladies are willing to sign the request, but they are fearful of being terminated and blacklisted. Page 91 and 92 of “Lyddie” states ” “I’ve half a mind to sign the blooming petition” said Betsy “I’m thinking about you. And what will you do without having job? You’d be blacklisted. No other firm would work with you stated Lyddie” (91, 92). This quote signifies that the consequence of signing the petition is you will fired and blacklisted, meaning you can’t get another task anywhere. This kind of supports the idea of Lyddie certainly not signing the petition since Lyddie would be risking her whole long term just by placing your signature to. If Lyddie doesn’t indication the petition and avoid this, she will save herself a whole lot of head aches.

Lyddie should never sign the petition because it will negatively affect how much money she gets. Some people imagine Lyddie will need to sign the petition since she has to liberate himself from the factory’s horrible salary conditions. Even so she has no choice because page 100 inside the novel says, “Lyddie very little was far too busy to assist anyone. She could not standard in her production or else her pay would drop” (100). This kind of quote demonstrates that Lyddie may not be distracted by signing a few petition that will ruin her. This supports my claim of Lydde NOT putting your signature on the petition because in that case she’ll have no way to earn money. Therefore , Lyddie can do the proper smart thing by not signing the petition.

Lyddie should not sign the request because it will certainly affect her negatively. She also shouldn’t sign it because she requires money, she will get blacklisted, and because it will eventually ruin her. Her selection of not putting your signature on the request will be the great for her mainly because she’ll job peacefully and get cash to achieve her goal of paying her debt.
