The ancient Greeks used testimonies containing Gods to explain the way in which life

was. Often times there was lessons to become learned that referred to human habit.

To the Greeks the misguided beliefs were looked at as examples of negative and positive behavior and

its results. they worshipped the Gods and tried out not to offend them in any respect.

The story of creation can be described as prime sort of how the Greeks viewed the heavens

and the earth. Zeus was the king of the heavens, earth, and men. Zeus son Apollo

urged every Greeks to follow along with these words: Nothing excessively and Know your

limits. These are words that even humans today should take to heart. The

Greeks supported manlike deities as well, who were in a position of spite

favoritism, and jealousy. The only difference staying their ability to perform

unnatural powers and immortality.

The creation on the planet according to the Greeks goes the following:

In the beginning there was clearly only mayhem. Out on this void made an appearance Erebus

the unknowable place where fatality dwells, and Night (Nyx). All else was empty

noiseless, endless, night. Upon the birth of Love(Eros) brought a start of order.

From Love came up Light and Day. Once there was Light and Time, Gaea appeared.

Gaea was the Earth goddess. Erebus then simply slept with Night, producing Aether and

Day. Aether was the heavenly light and Day was the light from the Earth. Night time

solely produced Death, Misfortune, Dreams, Fortune, Nemesis, Sleep, among others that

come to man from the darkness. At the same time Gaea gave birth to Uranus. Uranus

was the atmosphere god and first ruler who afterwards became wedded to his creator, Gaea.

Together they will proceeded to offer the three Cyclopes, the three Hecatoncheires

and 14 Titans.

Nevertheless , Uranus was obviously a bad father and partner. He disliked the

Hecatoncheires and indicated his hate by imprisoning them in the hidden

places of the the planet, Gaeas womb. This angered Gaea and she drawn against

Uranus. She attempted to get her children to attack Uranus. All had been too worried

except, the youngest Ti (symbol), Cronus. Gaea and Cronus set up a great ambush of Uranus

when he lay with Gaea at night. Cronus got his daddy and castrated him, with

a sharp target, throwing the severed genitals into the water. After this Uranus

either passed away, withdrew from the earth, or exiled himself to Italy. As he departed

he guaranteed that. Cronus and the Titans would be reprimanded. From his spilt blood

came the Giants, the Ash Shrub Nymphs, as well as the Erinyes. From your sea foam where

his genitals dropped came Aphrodite. She arose from the sea and strolled to the

shore in Cyprus. She was your goddess of affection, desire, and beauty. Along with

her natural presents she was able to compel anyone who she wanted with the use of a

magica l girdle. Following the absence of Uranus

Cronus started to be the next leader. He imprisoned the Cyclopes and the

Hecatoncheires in Tartarus and married his sis Rhea. With each other the Giants had

a large number of offspring although Cronus dominated for many age groups. However , Gaea and Uranus both

acquired prophesied that he would become overthrown by a son. To prevent this Cronus

swallowed each of his children as they were delivered. Rhea was angry in the

treatment of your children and plotted against Cronus. When it emerged time to offer

birth with her sixth child, Rhea concealed herself, after that she remaining the child being raised

simply by nymphs. To conceal her act she wrapped a stone in swaddling towels and passed

it off as the child to Cronus, who ingested it.

The surviving child was Zeus. He was god of the atmosphere and the rainfall

god. His weapon was obviously a thunderbolt which he put at those who upset him, often

penalizing those that sit or break oaths. He grew in a handsome youth on

Crete. He consulted Metis means defeat Cronus. She ready a drink intended for

Cronus style to make him vomit up the other children. Rhea convinced Cronus to

accept his son and Zeus was allowed to return to Mount Olympus as Cronuss

cupbearer. This kind of gave Zeus the opportunity to slip Cronus the specially well prepared

drink. This worked as planned as well as the other five children had been vomited up. Being

gods they were unharmed. They were grateful to Zeus and made him their head.

Metis presided over all intelligence and know-how. However , the lady was lured by Zeus

and became pregnant with Athena. Zeus became concerned above prophecies that her

second child could replace him. Out of this fear Zeus ate her. It is said that

she is still the source of wisdom for Zeus.

Cronus was yet to be conquered. He plus the Titans, besides Prometheus

Epimetheus, and Oceanus, fought to keep their electrical power. Since Cronus was aged of

age group, Atlas started to be their innovator in battle and that looked for quite a while as though

they would win and set the fresh gods down. However , Zeus was sneaky. He travelled

down to Tartarus and liberated the Cyclopes and the Hecatoncheires. Prometheus

became a member of Zeus as well. He delivered to battle with his new allies. The Cyclopes

provided Zeus with lighting bolts for weapons. The Hecatoncheires he set in

ambush armed with boulders. With the time right, Zeus retreated drawing the

Giants into the Hecatoncheiress ambush. The Hecatoncheires rained down hundreds

of boulders with this sort of a bear the Titans thought the forest were dropping on

them. They pennyless and happened to run giving Zeus victory.

Zeus exiled the Titans who fought against him into Tartarus. Except

for Atlas, who had been singled out intended for the unique punishment of holding the earth

on his shoulder muscles. However , also after this win Zeus has not been safe. Gaea

angry that her kids had been imprisoned gave labor and birth to a previous offspring

Typhoeus. Typhoeus was so fearsome that most from the gods fled. However , Zeus

faced the monster and flinging his lighting mounting bolts was able to kill it. Typhoeus

was left under Install Etna in Sicily. Much later a final challenge to Zeus

rule was performed by the Leaders. They gone so far as to try and invade Install

Olympus, adding mountain after mountain in order to reach the best. But , the

gods got grown solid and with the by using a Heracles the Giants were subdued or perhaps

killed.

The Gods as well as the stories of their being had been important to the Greeks.

To us these ideas are unprecedented, but to the Greeks it was their life style.

In 2k years by now each of our ideas might be unrealistic also. The creation story

permits us to see how that they viewed that they world and people in this.
