Excerpt from Interview:

Interview

For this task, I linked to an old fmily friend who had been visiting home from college. Her term is Nilly and we fulfilled at Starbucks. She’s a great Iranian-American, and we’ve well-known each for many years.

I opened the interview with several basic ethnographic questions. She’s 21 years of age. She was born in Tehran and her family moved to the US the moment she was two years old, fleeing the Ayatollah’s plan. She echoes Farsi and English. Your woman currently lives in Boston, exactly where she goes to school.

Just how many users of your family were delivered in another country?

A lot of them were born in Serbia, actually. Just my two younger brothers were born in america.

Have you at any time visited Usa?

NA: I’ve not. Our family was persecuted by the plan, so my parents are afraid of what might affect them if perhaps they come back. We talk a lot to our relatives that even now lives right now there, and while I believe we all need to meet sometime, we would rather meet in Europe than go back to Serbia, not before the regime is changed. Privately, I wanted to see when my own school is finished, but at present it is not possible for Americans to venture to Iran.

SV: Can you tell me what a typical day is a lot like there?

EM: Sure, I actually talk to my cousins right now there a lot. It can different to them. In one sense, they go to varsity and their parents go to operate, and that’s very normal. But of course they have to wear the abaya, and there are a lot of rules about things they can’t perform. Especially for the females. Nevertheless there is a magic formula police that everybody is afraid of – weight loss express thoughts the same way as here. You need to be very careful about who you talk to and what you say to them. Usually only close family is trusted.

SV: How do they dedicate their spare time there?

MHH: People in Iran don’t go to nightclubs the same way that we do below. A lot of public areas are only for men, so the girls usually interact socially in exclusive homes. You get together along with your friends and your family, you eat, and a private house you can wear whatever you need so it’s a much more natural establishing, everybody is somewhat more at ease for the reason that same sociable rules that apply in public areas don’t apply in private. So naturally people see a park and things like that, but social activity is more focused around the home.

We all then talked about a typical time, which the lady describes are incredibly normal, like any other American college student, living with roommates, learning, and finding pleasure in friends. My spouse and i also asked about home life right here.

NA: It’s a lot like back in Usa I think. The women do all the work in the home. Preparing food, cleaning, maintaining the children, this can be all the work that the women carry out. Persian men aren’t likely to change that easily.

SV: Can you give me an example of an average meal in your household?

NA: You imply like follón night? At home when my personal mother can be cooking we do a lots of traditional Local dishes, a lot of meat and rice, and everything stacked in the middle of the table. It’s a family-style of eating. On my own, it’s a many more American, because I grew up with that, too, so now I’m actually seriously excited to go back home and eat Persian food because We never make it personally.

SV: Perform members of the family practice a particular religion?

NA: We are all Muslims. Youngsters doesn’t pray as much as the older generation really does. We are also American today.

SV: Just for this section I’ll ask you questions about your culture, that means, beliefs, customs and methods of life which have been familiar to you personally.

SV: Could you describe the kinds of traditional music in your lifestyle?

NA: We certainly have some kinds of music. The instruments are very different from European instruments, just like different flutes and percussion and chain instruments, although we also have pop music. It’s simply, different. The sound is different., in addition to to be even more subtle regarding certain points. You can’t simply openly sing about love-making, so you say it consist of ways. Yet back in Usa it is several. The specialists approve what music you can listen to, and what vocalists are allowed to carry out. So it is quite restricted, and some music you may only below if you are by someone’s residence and there are artists playing.

SV: Are there dances that are done with different types of
