Walt Whitman
Walt Whitman’s America was one of great variety and ethnic flourishingwhich this individual loved. He wrote regarding he loved all of America, and how he was “at residence on the hills of Vermont or inside the woods of Maine, or the Texas ranch” (1405). Despite its challenges, Whitman a new great gratitude for American culture and variety. He was by least happy in America, saying “I are satisfied I realize, dance, have a good laugh, sing¦” (1395). Most of his view on American diversity are located in section 20 of Track of Me personally where he prospect lists all the different types of people this individual knows. Whitman describes one of these in his words: “the youthful fellow hard disks the communicate wagon, (I love him, though I actually do not know him)” (1402)showing more admiration for all areas of American existence. This writing likely comes from his activities in Ny where he “immersed himself in the pulsing life of that rising metropolisspending period with his varied group of friends, who went from workingmen to artists” (1388). Whitman seems more unaggressive to American life than Emerson. Whilst Emerson was trying to impact culturalor by least intellectual cultureWhitman was more a great observer, wanting to experience this as he says, “I withstand anything a lot better than my own variety / Breathe the air yet leave plenty after me / And am not really stuck up, and i am in my place” (1405).
To create music and form, Whitman uses techniques anaphora, rhymes, repeating of key phrases, and the duplication of appears. Take this excerpt for example: “And such these types of tend inward to me, and i also tend facing outward to these people, / And so on as it is being of these approximately I am, / Along with these one and all I place the tune of myself” (1404). 1st he repeats the word ‘and’ to start each line, and he repeats the phrase ‘and such’ for the first in line to lines. The first in line to lines possess a few rhyming words involving the two: me and be, and them and am. The third line recommendations the repeated word ‘these’ from the initially two lines, and tells why “these” things are significant to him. There is also seite an seite structure in every three lines, as “And such” or perhaps “And of” references 2 things: those inward to him and to the outside to him, those more he is or perhaps less he could be, and those everyone with which he weaves the song of himself.
One verse I really loved was “Listener up there! what have you to confide in my experience? / Look in my deal with while I snuff the sidle of night time, / (Talk honestly, no person else listens to you, and i also stay simply a minute much longer. ) / Do I confront myself? as well as Very well i quickly contradict myself, / (I am significant, I consist of multitudes)” (1438). I like this passage because it has a lot of Whitman’s voice in it, when he directly addresses the reader. I like how he’s saying the reader’s respond to the poems is direct to Whitman and may not be interfered simply by anyone else, and I like how Whitman says he contradicts himself as they knows so much.
