This is probably related to the fact that fewer Americans may consider themselves “middle course. ” With the decline of America’s once-prized middle class has come a decline in once-prized democracy. The American middle class has been dropping, in all aspects, considering that the late 1960’s, and continually fall today. The decrease of the American middle category has led to not only economic struggle, but offers constrained the existence of true democracy in America.

In his essay “Terra Autógrafo, ” Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa explains his journey from a migrant farmville farm worker to a respected neurosurgeon. Somewhere in that transition, Quiñones-Hinojosa worked as “a welder and pressure valve expert for a train company” (Quiñones-Hinojosa). As such, middle-class personnel and people have been slowly but surely disproportionately required into not as comfortable as other solutions and generally harder lives.

The causes of this median decrease are significant, and so are its effects. Many wouldn’t expect one a result of America’s shed middle class- the drop of democracy. As People in the usa become economically polarized, more people are moved into possibly notable riches or in notable economic struggle, leaving less average citizens to participate in America’s government.

Unfortunately, the death of America’s middle section class is more than just a fiscal issue. Edward Luce describes succinctly in the book “Time to Start Thinking America in the age of Descent”- “There was obviously a time, till relatively just lately, when belonging to the American middle class brought with it a basic degree of security. Many of those have gone or perhaps continue to erode” (Luce). Sadly, along with those times of economic balance has gone the cultural typical required for a prosperous democracy. If our midsection class will not regain the size and power, America as we know it might never become the same.
