Full Metal Jacket and Platoon are clearly a pair of the biggest videos ever made about the
Vietnam Battle, therefore , they are going to always be in comparison and in contrast to each other.
Platoon was based on Oliver Stones own experience and so he applied simple conflict movie
techniques to give a realistic feeling of what jungle combat was like. Kubricks Full Material
Coat was depending on Gustav Hasfords experience, although Kubrick wanted to use the story to
explore those that have made people into killers. The two of these films have very different methods
of course, if we are to compare all of them it should be inside the capacity to know what war means
towards the average person.
Both of the films are extremely detailed in depicting what actual rivalry is like, however
Platoon gives a wonderful sense of the environment: miserably hot, really intense, disease
filled, and a very scary environment no one might readily wish to visit. Full Metal Coat
is exploring this also, but concentrates a lot attention on the method and training involved in
preparing for warfare.
These two movies are a lot alike in two factors: they the two view the battle pretty much
through the eye of one jewellry and they both seriously glorify war and make it
seem very attractive. Both have strong male potential clients who it appears live in an unfamiliar
masculine realm exactly where everyday guidelines do not actually apply to everyday people. This
concept is actually appealing to guys because even if they were never in battle they experience
like they have knowledgeable it. The two films check out the frame of mind of guys wanting to and
actually wishing intended for combat. They may have the frustrating desire to indulge the adversary in a
battle to the death. Regrettably this attitude usually leads to tragedy and so the lesson right here would be
be careful the things you wish for.
A major difference between the two is in Platoon the military are virtually depicted as
brats who sit down around and drink all day, do prescription drugs, and even destroy their superior officers. This
idea was touched on in Full Metal Clothing as well when a soldier, following going crazy, shot
and killed his mature drill sgt, however , in Platoon this is certainly more of a dominant
feature of the movie. In Platoon the main figure is a abundant college child who
dropped away of college to do his duty to his country, when Full Metallic Jacket really does
not portray one to be this kind of smart or perhaps educated. That may be if departing school to travel half approach
around the globe in a foreign land and get yourself taken at could possibly be construed while smart.
Both movies depict the harshness rivalry has on kinds body and more importantly ones
mind. They do nevertheless address this differently. Entirely Metal Clothes we have the courses
enthusiast who button snaps and shoots his older drill sergeant. There is also a picture where a
helicopter gunner is having a laugh and shouting as he pistols down civilians working in a rice
patty, plus the ending landscape where a solider shots a Vietnamese sniper, who is only a
teenage girl, in the head. This is done without much said and an empty try looking in his attention so
as to remove himself by what he previously just completed. In Platoon American troops raid a
camp of Thai and become therefore paranoid associated with execute all of them in order to find
any guns. Then a north american soldier who believes a Vietnamese young man, who has a single leg
and is 50 percent retarded, is mocking him by smiling at him so he bludgeons the boy to death
with the booty of his rifle. This is quite simply a crime of hate and monomanía brought on by
the suffering and self applied of being within a war. When there is a common website link between those two
motion pictures it is that they will be told with content and never necessarily style. The main strength of
the two of these films is definitely not effects but the items of what and how the storyplot is being
told.
In the long run neither Full Metal Clothes nor Platoon left us with answers as to the causes of
the war. The top problems basically went unmentioned which would be: Why would the
United States invade the small region of Vietnam? Why would the United States shed the
war? These are obvious important questions which neither film addresses, yet , both
glamorize service to our country and we all know that is not reasonable to conflict. It is
my opinion that Platoon is by far the more genuine film of the two, if for nothing more
due to the fact that the person who made the film basically was in the Vietnam War and
therefore experienced first hand familiarity with the accounts that proceeded there which makes it more
real. Nevertheless I enjoyed Full Material Jacket more so then Platoon. Platoon was a great
movie yet I loved the laughter edge Full Metal Clothes had the first half the movie to help ease
the tension and seriousness of the circumstance. I can also relate more to Full Metal Jacket then
Platoon because of the basic teaching aspect becoming covered in such depth as I have been completely
through basic training but not within a war. Finally, what are we but items of our
immediate environment and also do we affix feeling to or relate with then our incredibly
personal life experiences?
