Poem Comparison: Island Gentleman and Hurricane Hits England I am going to review both the poetry and explain the differences and similarities together.  Both the poems will be set in Great britain, and the poet person uses adverse experiences that occur there to help remind herself of her culture/home.  The adverse experiences in both poetry are centralised around the component of weather, as with Island man it targets the sound of London visitors: a grey steel soar, rise of rims which the poet person portrays since the sound of blue surf and in Hurricane hits Great britain, the adverse experience which reminded her of her home is actually a hurricane which will hit, close to where she moved, in England: It took a hurricane, to get her deeper.

Another likeness both poetry share, are that they are both equally told in third person: this provides an element of length to the poem, symbolising the fact that poet seems detached by her culture/home. To add even more emphasise towards the distance created, in every single poem, the poet a new character, although by not referring to them by term, made it feel impersonal and detached.  The only difference is, in Hurricane visits England, once the hurricane features hit, as the poet suddenly feels close to home, the writing switches to first person, making the poem more personal.

An additional difference is the structure in the two poems.  In Tropical isle man, you cannot find any punctuation, instead, the line space adds 50 percent pauses, and symbolises the breaking of waves.  The lack of punctuation makes the poem feel free, just as the poet would imagine the Island man to be.  At the beginning of Typhoon hits Britain, whilst the writing design is in third person, the poet uses more punctuation, adding structure to the composition, and making it more formal. However , after the poet features switched to first person, generally there isnt as much punctuation, showing the freeness and nearness of the poet as the hurricane has hit.

A final difference between two poetry, is that I think the central theme for Island man is of longing for home, as he lets requirements of visitors in London take him back in his house in the Caribbean, and how he finds it hard to get up to deal with this new environment: Island gentleman heaves him self, groggily groggily.  Where as in Hurricane hits England, in contrast to in Island man the place that the poet imagines the tip the sound with the sea, the hurricane in fact hits, producing more nearness as it actually happens.  Once this experience has happened, the poet accepts the modern home in England, as the final line of the poem is definitely: The earth is the earth is a earth.
