Human Condition

Both The Great Work by Thomas Berry and Holy Energies simply by Daniel Maguire suggest ways that human beings can transform the harmful path they may be on. The 2 works have a cosmological method to the problem, the former focusing on the planet earth as sacred, while the latter uses faith as a possible treatment to the situation.

The three major themes where The Great Work is based, comprise the current scenario of the human being community, just how this had become, and the possible future of the human community. Super berry blames American science and religion pertaining to the state of the earth today. The real reason for this is that science and religion are becoming separate in human awareness, rather than integrative forces. Religion is as a result no longer known as either a primary or cement force on which to base life. In the same manner humanity is now separate from every other sort of life, and from the globe itself.

The fundamental problem, according to Super berry, is the human attitude on the earth. The integrated Christian attitude can be one of individual domination over everything on earth. This, coupled with the fact that religion and science have been completely separated, constructs a parting from the very force that provides human beings and everything else existence. The latest outward exhibition of this is a rapid advance of technology and its natural destruction of natural methods. Berry highlights that this is known as a destructive frame of mind that will at some point lay waste materials to the earth.

As a remedy for the catastrophe on earth, Super berry suggests another type of paradigm. He names the entire world as a kind of “Garden of Eden” among all the different uninhabitable planets of the world. Human beings will need to therefore know that the earth offers life, and that ecology should be the basis of the rest. Without the globe there is absolutely nothing. Dealing correctly with the globe has become more than merely a subject only of spirituality or morality, based on the author. It may be a matter of concrete man survival. To reconnect with all the earth can then be to reconnect with the incredibly forces that give human beings their humanity. This can be the meaning that Berry describes to get human beings inside their relationship with cosmology. Everything is integrated with the globe – the main life provider. Nothing can easily dominate. Thirsting for dominance is ultimately self-destructive.

Regarding spirituality then simply, Berry stresses the importance of finding the holy in a science-based earth “religion. ” The concept of a transcendent God towards whom most human beings need to strive motivates the destructive paradigm of separation through the earth. Human beings should switch towards the earth and its spirituality instead. In this manner a well intentioned symbiosis could possibly be achieved even better than in historical times, permitted by
