In the composition “Behaviour of Fish in an Egyptian Tea Garden” by simply Keith Douglas, a beautiful female uses the potency of seduction to draw many men. Douglas uses simile to describe over as a “white stone” when calling males different types of fish like “magnate, an important fish” and “flat-eyed fish”. Over the whole composition, Douglas appears to use the expression “fish” many times. It seems he’s describing the environment as an aquatic environment. Since it is third person limited, you does not really know what the males are thinking, yet using symbolism the reader can know how they are at her and it is clear that the guys are drawn to her.

The poem contains eight stanzas with four lines in every stanza. It is a narrative poem because it contains a plot with regards to a beautiful woman trying to make use of her ways of seduction, nevertheless the men are too threatened of computer and they soon run off. You cannot find any rhyming plan although there couple of rhymes just like “afternoon” and “spoon”.

Each stanza does not have rhyming being, only 4 out of seven stanzas have a rhyming system. An interested thing which the readers may notice is that each range has about nine or ten syllables.

In stanza one, Douglas introduces the girl as a “white stone” and she “draws down the fish” (L. 1). The first line explains the woman’s beauty and how this attracts the attention of all of the guys in the room. The woman is most likely resting and trying to look beautiful so each of the men would wish her. The girl “Draws straight down men’s looks and their vicious wish for love. ” (Line 3) The girl is certainly not doing whatever and yet this wounderful woman has already done so much. Not only did the girl make the men look at her, but it appears they are also thinking about her and how they want to be with her.

In stanza two, the reader understands about the woman way of attraction. “Slyly her red lip on the spoon/ slips in a morsel of the ice cream” (L. some, 5). Many men have a filthy mind, thus when she put that spoon full of ice cream in her mouth, she acquired the mens full focus. She is also wearing a number of cosmetic equipment. She is putting on red lips stick and red toe nail polish while seeking white or maybe a “milky stone” (L. 6).

There is this one man in stanza 3 that seems to have a little bit more involvement in the woman. “A cotton potente, an important fish” seems to like her as he is looking from throughout. The man was going to walk out, but after seeing her one more time he decided to stay to watch her some more. Another man in stanza four is a vintage man referred to as a “crustacean old man” who is sitting down near her. As he can there be staring at her just like some other man, this individual tries not to stare anywhere else but her face. This individual “might observe her charm bracelets through the cracks where the eyes should be if not his teeth can parted within a stare” (L. 14-16). The actual author says is that in the event the man looks below the throat region, his jaw is going to drop because of his depraved thoughts.

A 3rd man known as the “lean darker mackerel” attempts to look like he is not concerned with too much regarding the woman. “The flat-eyed fish sucks over a straw, staring from its repose, laxly. “(L. 19, 20) He is still attracted to her since he turned around to consider her, although he seemed calm and cool because he was sleeping and looking in her within a peaceful method.

In stanza six, that they talk about a male who is upgrading and endeavors to do what every person wants to do with her. Every person wants to be around her, although everyone is threatened. The man can be “circling and passing nearby the white attraction. ” (L. 22) The man is trying to have to get the confidence to ask her out, but he under no circumstances does. Having been to scared of what would happen so he never acquired the opportunity. Considering that the ice cream is currently gone, the boys don’t seem to be interested in her any longer. “The seafood swim off on business/ and she sits residence alone at the table” (L. 26, 27). Douglas says that the woman lost her power of seduction and she actually is no longer the attraction and every man has left since the girl with not as gorgeous anymore. The girl with a “white stone/ ineffective except into a collector, a rich person. ” (L. 27, 28) The quote means she’s no longer the thing that the men have an interest in and the simply way she will get someone to be with her is if the girl becomes a trophy wife.

In the long run of the poem, it comes to a sad end. The girl is depressed as the boys go on with their very own busy lives. Throughout the complete poem, the girl was looking to use the power of seduction, although ended up bullying everyone aside. As a audience, it comes to not surprising that she did not acquire anyone since being a tease is no approach to get a woman or a man. Therefore , proper rights has been offered as the lady ends up alone.
