In Chapter you, the narrator introduces himself as Chip Carraway and talks about himself and his father. He describes himself while tolerant but fails to realizes his landscapes are very prejudiced and addresses with pity to those whom “haven’t had the advantages you have had, ” as his father says. Nick originates from a well-known Mid-Western family, and graduated via Yale (as his forefathers have) in 1915.

In dinner, Jeff talks about the book, “The Rise in the Colored Empires”, and readers learn that Tom is usually pro-white prominence.

Dinner is usually interrupted by a phone call for Tom, and Jordan tells Nick that must be a telephone call from Tom’s lover in New York. Daisy and Chip catch up in private on the terrace.
