In “And Still We all Rise” by simply Miles Corwin, Corwin stocks and shares the lives of urban city kids whom still try to succeed and go to college or university although the circumstances they are dealt with have informed them or else. Some of the children that dealt with bad hands were Toya, Olivia, and Willie.

The struggles that they can went through are impetuous. Growing up, Toya never understood her natural father. Rather she lived with her mom and stepfather. Toya would often see the two arguing and in the end it arrived at her stepfather beating her mother on his having binges. Finally her mom getting so tired of this kind of abuse grabbed her two daughters and took protection. Although, once Toya’s mother could not afford the nightly shield fee the girl arranged for her girls and herself to stay with a good friend. When she went home one day to have the girls’ clothing her husband strangled her to death.

Toya walked in the bath room to find her mother useless on the floor. After the murder of her mother, Toya and her sister were provided for a group residence and later to their aunt’s property. Toya was sexually abused by her stepfather who had a huge effect on her. She later on became pregnant and provided birth into a boy during her jr year. This kind of ruined a lot for her in school. She was now gonna study in the home, return to high school graduation the next 12 months and show up at college. “I didn’t have got time to think about tomorrow. I had to survive today, ” (47).

Her plans were completely ruined when ever both her aunt and cousin started her out. She could not graduate from secondary school but instead got her GED and may attend university with the help of her church. Like Toya, Willie’s parents were divorced. Willie lived together with his mother and siblings right up until she was arrested. His mother recently had an addiction to crack and often left her children home for long periods of time. They were after that separated into several different homes never to experience together again. Willie ended up living with his dad who had been constantly operating.

He strived in school because he didn’t need to end up just like his parents. One evening Willie found his mother passed out in a garden in the area. When issues went incorrect, all Willie could carry out was cry and be miserable because he genuinely had nobody to turn to. He done high school and later went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Atlanta for business. From the beatings her mom gave her to going AWOL after hating promote homes, Olivia’s life was far from excellent. When Olivia was a young adult she was a ward in the county, hopping from one group home to another. Other women would grab her clothing and pursuit her about with a sizzling iron.

Your woman was released from jail on time for university and went. She is at this point doing extremely well and aiding kids in group homes every Sunday morning. Through hard times, good times will sparkle through.

These kinds of kids received such tough lives and it was their particular decision to do what that wanted with their lives. It is a lot harder to have success when you have a great deal hate who are around you, but each of these students chose to persevere and make a better life for themselves. “Remember earlier times.
