Excerpt from Essay:

Aristotle’s National politics

Dear Aristotle

I must say I was particularly thankful for your Governmental policies. It was an interesting read exactly because it commented on the simple nature of man – man is actually a political creature; of world, communities plus the concept of the City. Living today’s world, the concept of “the City” features always baffled me because modern city settings seem to be so inhuman sometimes – so engrossed in contemporary materialism or consumerism, in richness and wealth and extravagance (the comforts), exactly what seems to hide humanity underneath. Or, the contrary is the circumstance – urban centers are dens of physical violence and offense and people are scared to leave their homes out of fear. Neither extreme seems good – so I appreciated reading with regards to your take on what it takes to be a Metropolis and how this is an excellent way to organize society.

What I particularly appreciated was that you affirmed that a City is not merely a community that is certainly large nevertheless is rather consisting of many families/villages united within single goal – largely to be self-sufficient and capable to live very well. By living well, naturally , you label the ability to live virtuously so that one may well pursue the most popular good (at least, this is the way I understood it). This idea connected in my mind to the notion of Buddhist Economists, which sights work and labor because having a three-fold purpose – first, to develop the faculties and abilities of the individual; second, to allow the to work with different and thus shed his egocentrism; and, third, to allow the person to better himself/surroundings. Thus I really could identify a universal principle in your conceiving of the Town and what it takes to be a part of a community that is certainly united in the aim of bettering one another.

I actually find that the conception of community is definitely far totally different from ours in the modern world, however. I do think that we today tend to watch ourselves since something below we really happen to be. We tend to consider ourselves because economical animals – individuals that just need the equal way of measuring goods and income, home, car, etc ., and all will probably be well. I believe to some extent the fathers experienced this within their generation – but look at how things have damaged. In my look at, we are more than mere buyers who want to be comfy. I think you may have definitely handled on a thing important – the need to strap together to work towards some thing higher. I may not have plainly understood what you were saying about how exactly a community must be organized and led, although I inquired about that your idea was rooted in a few higher good – a form of transcendental advantage. I would like to learn your National politics again – and, basically, I would like to see your various other works, and also those by Plato, who also came prior to you. Your comments upon the theories of Socrates
