People all over the world, over and over again, have made related advances and mistakes claims Wright in his book A shorter History of Improvement (Wright, s 57). In the time cultures have come with each other, humans make similar errors which have got similar results bringing about the devastation of the environment around them and a disastrous end to their own civilizations. Various civilizations such as Easter Island, Catal Huyuk and Mesopotamia have been completely destroyed because of self destructive traps named progress blocks (Wright, s 56).

Improvement traps are set up by three main elements namely by the overuse of natural methods, too much faith in religion and human wars. The catastrophe that produces these blocks is not really nature nevertheless man him self and we human beings have an extended and damaging history of ravaging ourselves.

Easter Island, an island western of South America made impressive progress because of religion however the progress likewise proved to be their doom. All their misplaced faith in the faith based statues named moai and their uncontrolled inhabitants depleted the natural solutions on the island (Wright, p 60).

Initially there was a good amount of natural solutions on the island but after each generation, the statues they built had been bigger compared to the last challenging more natural resources. The folks had by no means thought about the near future while using the solutions because of their boundless confidence inside their religion and their moai Gods told all of them that wealth would go back as long as that they built even more stone sculptures (Wright, p 61).

Ultimately with no resources left, all the different clans got divided and raged battles with each other. The peoples in the island acquired made too much progress in erecting images leading to an ecological devastation which ultimately promoted a war between different races (Wright, p 63). Therefore , Easter Island was self destructed by Polynesian settlers because of their senseless use of resources, too much hope in Moai and inner clashes. Those had simply no route of escape because they were stranded on an isle with no resources. Moai, the stone giants had devoured the area (Wright, pp 60-61).

In the case of the Sumerian settlement at Catal Huyuk things were not different however the settlers had a route of escape. The folks that initial settled in Catal Huyuk began farming without any knowledge that they wereslowly reducing the richness from the soil which the end will force them to migrate their whole negotiation again. Rich soils and good farming land became a cause of wars and there was competition for area in Catal Huyuk (Wright, p 66). Widespread deforestation, overgrazing, lime green burning etc . made the land absolutely bare and turned it into the wasteland we see today. They like the Easter islanders had befouled their nest, or rather stripped it simple (Wright, g 67). That they however were lucky as they could go on to Mesopotamia that was lower down on the great plain of Tigris and Euphrates (Wright, g 67). The settlers Catal Huyuk got ended all their civilization because of over farming and numerous wars pertaining to fertile terrain.

Mesopotamia as being a good option to get the Sumerians, was quickly occupied by the migrants and the land was very abundant with fish, times, soil and so forth (Wright, s 67). But the land was again more than used plus the priestly organizations that experienced developed began to take advantage of the the general public. The priests were worried more about their own prosperity and greediness rather than in fact protect people from organic calamities because they claimed to acquire doing (Wright, p 70).

The enormous useful the priests also advertised clashes while using mountain and desert people. On the other hand, deforestation due to overgrazing and ploughing of domains caused the frequent massive amounts in Mesopotamia to have a larger than normal result. Woodlands to start with used to absorb most of the rainfall but as a result of deforestation, the soaking up with the water did not work (Wright, p 74). The Sumerians destroyed their particular civilization as a result of deforestation which will caused catastrophic floods, a lot of faith in the priests and clashes while using mountain and desert folk.

All in all, Wright argues that individuals should make use of our understanding of past faults to prevent a similar fate intended for our current day world. Above consumption of natural methods, blind faith in religious beliefs and wars had destroyed past civilizations such as Easter Island, Mesopotamia and Catal Huyuk. Wright records in his book A Short History of Progress that humans have a habit of self damage and because of numerous current challenges, we are possibly heading toward self destruction today.
